Nic Foster - Landscape Artist

About

Nic Foster was born on 20th July 1965 in Christchurch. He now lives in Nelson with his wife and two children.

Nic studied at NMIT in Nelson where he received a Bachelor of Visual Arts and at Ilam School of Fine Art in Christchurch where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours.

Of his paintings, Nic writes, 'My work is primarily a response to living in and experiencing the surroundings of the South Island. I am interested by the myriad of high energy coastlines, and quite intimidated by the drama of the mountainous terrain. '

'I constantly search for light and its effects on the land, I also like the texture and colour of things whilst trying all the time to capture a feeling or mood in my painting that might in turn evoke a response from a viewer. '

'I am still passionate about the act of painting, and constantly look at historical works as a source of inspiration.'
